College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students to earn college credit without actually having to attend class. CLEP exams allow students to demonstrate knowledge they have obtained through independent study or prior life, work, or cultural experiences. Students can earn between 3 and 12 college credits through earning a satisfactory score on their CLEP exams.
WHAT CLEP EXAMS ARE AVAILABLE?
Currently, CLEP offers 34 different exams. Most CLEP exams cover material taught in a one-semester college course, but some CLEP exams correspond with material taught in two-semester or even two-year courses. SpeedyPrep offers study courses for 21 of the 34 CLEP tests.

HOW CAN STUDENTS STUDY FOR A CLEP EXAM?
Students can prepare for their CLEP exam using a variety of methods. Some students, such as international students, may find that they already possess the knowledge to take and pass a CLEP exam, such as the Spanish Language CLEP exam. Many students, however, possess little knowledge about the CLEP exam material so they must find a way to prepare adequately for the CLEP exam.
Many CLEP prep methods exist to help students prepare for their CLEP exam. These methods include CLEP study guides, college textbooks, tutorial cds and dvds, practice CLEP exam questions, and online CLEP prep methods.
HOW ARE CLEP CREDITS AWARDED?
Each of over 2900 colleges and universities accepting CLEP has different policies regarding how college credits are awarded from a CLEP exam. Each college or university accepting CLEP determines the exam score required to obtain college credits, the number of credits awarded for each satisfactory CLEP exam score, and the course for which the CLEP credits will substitute. Students should find out the CLEP policies of their college or university before taking a CLEP exam.

CLEP exams allow students of all ages to save time and money! CLEP also offers convenience as students are able to prepare for the CLEP exam on their own timeframe instead of spending time attending scheduled classes. HOW MUCH CAN I SAVE THROUGH CLEP?
Each CLEP exam costs $82 to take, compared to the average college course, which, in the 2008-2009 college year costs $1047 per credit hour at private colleges and $274 per credit hour at public colleges! Each CLEP you pass is saving you approximately 1-3K dollars.
WHO CAN TAKE CLEP EXAMS?
CLEP exams can benefit everyone. Military personnel, homeschooled students, adult learners, working adults, and traditional college students are all examples of people who use CLEP to gain valuable college credits.

Students will use CLEP for many different reasons. Some to get that last class needed to graduate, others to shorten the time it takes to get their degree, and some to simply lighten their class load per semester.
